We’ve been busy over the holidays building a new website for the BSA Shakori District. We hope that you like it.
All the great content that you were used to is still available and we’ll be adding news items and other valuable content that you can use in the future to stay connected with what’s going on in the Shakori District – your Scouting District!
We have a District email list that you can request to join by clicking here.
Please take a look around and let us know what you think by completing this form.
Shakori District Chair
The post office box once used by the Council Service Center (Box 41229) was closed / discontinued on Dec 31, 2013.
The sole mailing address for the Council Service Center is the street address:
3231 Atlantic Avenue
Raleigh, NC 27604
Eagle Scout candidates must make sure to provide the street address to all references.
The 2014 Eagle Scout Rank Application (512-728_WB) is released, a link is on the District Eagle Advancement Resources page, and is the only version approved for use by candidates completing requirements on or after January 1, 2014.
In addition to the placement of Cooking in the list of required merit badges under Requirement 3, please also be aware that there are now seven (7) requirements on the application.
The 7th requirement now reads:”Successfully complete an Eagle Scout board of review. In preparation for your board of review, prepare and attach to your Eagle Scout Rank Application a statement of your ambitions and life purpose and a listing of positions held in your religious institution, school, camp, community, or other organizations, during which you demonstrated leadership skills. Include honors and awards received during this service.”
In other words:
- Successfully completing the Eagle BOR is now a specifically numbered requirement.
- 2- The statement of life purpose / list of honors that was part of Req 6 is now part of Req 7. As such, it is being made clear that the statement of life purpose / list of honors is intended to provide the board of review with a document that will reveal, in a few minutes of reading, an understanding of the young man’s hopes, hobbies, values, etc.
Effective February 1, 2013, Steve Blanchard will take over as the new chair of the District Eagle Committee.
Procedures for approving Eagle project proposals and scheduling Eagle boards of review will remain the same, except they’ll now go through Mr Blanchard.
